These workshops/presentations are designed for anyone to use to deliver a session on water safety to young people. They are free-to-download and feature engaging activities that prompt young people to think critically about the risks they take and provide clear guidance on what to do in the event of an emergency.
Please note that it is advisable to research local bodies of water (e.g. lochs, rivers, reservoirs) prior to delivery, as they are helpful to refer to and may make the session more meaningful for young people.
We hope to reach a broad audience across the country through school assemblies, youth and activity groups, and much more. Please note that the secondary level resource is suitable for ages 14+ but one activity is recommended for ages 16+ only.
There are 3 resources to use with young people at secondary school level:
A lesson plan. The objectives of this resource are to develop an understanding of the dangers of water, in particular the effects of cold water shock. Secondly, develop an understanding of how you can keep yourself and others safe around water, and how to respond in an emergency.
A Workshop. The objectives of this PowerPoint document are to provide a series of questions in relation to dangerous situations near bodies of water. The PowerPoint slides go on to explain the correct course of action to take. Please note (on clicking) the file will be downloaded to your PC or Hand held device.Note on presenting the file
